Migrating license from one system to another

Migrating license from one system to another

Full uninstallation of the program on one system and installing it and re-activating the license on another should work for all programs on Gearmage. For specific products, see instructions below:

Mail Attachment Downloader PRO Client or PRO Server

On the old system:
    1. PRO Server only: Uninstall the service if installed using the program's Service tab. Using services.msc will not fully uninstall the service.
    2. Recommended: Update old system to latest build so both systems are using the same version number AND build: see instructions hereValidate that everything is working properly by running a manual "Connect and Download". You may choose to not update if you don't want to touch it but doing so may mean that the Exported settings version may not match the Imported settings. This may cause problems migrating the settings.
    3. Export settings file using the Export/Import tab to .mdz
    4. Uninstalling the program fully from the Windows control panel.
On the new system:
    1. Install the latest version and build of the program on the new system: see instructions here. Use the links that came along with your license email to download the latest version and build and install it.
    2. Re-activate and validate the same license again on the new system.
    3. Import settings from the previously exported .mdz file.
    4. Quit the program and restart.
Manual settings copy:
All settings are usually stored in the %AppData%\MAD folder (open this in explorer or if you used command line args to specify a different folder, in that folder). If export/import doesn't work, you can try to manually copy settings from that folder to the same destination (%AppData%\MAD) in the destination system.

Automatic backup of settings:
Automatic daily backups of settings are stored in %AppData%\MAD_BACKUP. You can import from this as well if for some reason settings were corrupted.

Gear Doc Converter

Simply uninstall from the old system and re-install on the new system.

Manual settings copy:
All settings are stored in %AppData%\GearDoc. You can copy the contents of this to the new system and restart the program.
